Skills Set – Certificate 111 in Tour Guiding Holmesglen Institute

Holmesglen Institute will again be conducting this popular course at their City Campus.
The course will start on 11July and run until 7September. It will be held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings (5.30 to 9.30) and two Saturdays.
This skills set will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to facilitate local and regional tours while awarding you nationally accredited units of competency.
Whilst updating your knowledge of Melbourne and Victoria, you will learn how to effectively manage and entertain a tour group and provide them with first rate commentary.
The program will be delivered at our city campus on St Kilda Road, (opposite the Shrine of Remembrance). There will be a number of off-campus activities including two full day excursion to ensure you get the hands on experience required to be industry ready. The skill set is taught by leading well-connected tour guiding professionals who are currently working in the industry.

PTGAA Learning Day 21st April

Our first 2017 Learning Day is shaping up to be a corker so lock in Friday 21st April now. The day will run from 9:30 am until 3pm and will be held at the Royal Historical Society of Victoria’s HQ at 239 A’Beckett St, Melbourne.
The program includes
- Fiona Sweetman, Founder and CEO of the very successful Hidden Secrets Tours, will talk about the structure of the Tourism Industry and how jobs for guides come about. Fiona will also cover how to improve your marketing.
- Travellers Aid will be telling us all about their long-standing organisation – one of Melbourne’s little known resources which can be the ace up every tour guide’s sleeve.
- Metro Rail will be outlining the work over the next 9 years in central Melbourne as they start to tunnel under Melbourne to create our next underground rail service. The logistics of this huge project are fascinating and the work will impact on tour guiding in Melbourne for many years.
- Also an update on all things to do with membership of PTGAA.
And don’t forget that the RHSV’s exhibition Remembering the ‘Burbs: 1850-1960 will be available for you to check out during the lunch hour or after the Learning Day.
